Arisha’s Rope game reflections.. (rope burns!)

How is this game relevant to connections (”All is One”)?

Since we all were tied to each other using the rope, we technically have created a web of connections with each other. All the movement that we make, we have to make sure, we all figure it out as one but not as  two or three because if we all went our separate ways, we will not be able to reach the class without having injuries. It’s all about your ability in cooperating with others to achieve something without leaving anyone behind. So, “All is one” means that everybody is connected to another person and they all have to work together and think about the consequences of an action before putting it into action.

What were some of the results of pulling the rope? What does this teach us about connections amongst issues or people?

Some of the results of pulling the rope is that some of the students got hurt since the rope tightened after being pulled, causing rope burns onto their wrist. This teaches us connections among issues AND people because when there is an issue, not everyone would want to be involve and work together in solving it. Instead, some might go on  their own way and not thinking of the consequences of doing so. For example, the politicians here in Mindanao, Philippines. Money were given to them so that they can give monthly salaries to the employees of a government company but actually, some of them did not even get their salaries for 6 months. How can this be explained? It’s easy. The politician got the money, keep 2/3 of it in his pocket, the rest he’ll be distributing it to the employees but, what he didn’t realize is that they are not enough to pay everyone’s salary. Therefore, leaving some of the workers unpaid. So, because of him not wanting to help the people in Mindanao, they have to fight for their rights as they are not being treated equally. That is one of the major reasons why they have wars and genocide. It’s because of people not wanting to admit that they all are connected to one another. Thus, everyone walks their own ways without thinking of what might happen to others.

What are the people experiences as a result of pulling on the rope?

Some of the people’s experiences were having to carry the ‘dead’ while being tied to another person and having to argue in what pace should we all walk back to the classroom since the people in front wants to reach class faster so, they start to pull the rope forward causing the people in the back who is carrying the ’deads’ to get rope burns. I,  myself got a rope burn as a result of the people in front wanting to rush back to class. But in the end, we managed to compromise with each other since the people in the front finally realized that they are hurting the people in the back, so we then set a pace back to class so that everyone can follow without getting hurt. In the end, we did manage to go back to class without having to hurt others again.

How aware were you of the consequences of your actions during the game?

I wasn’t aware of the consequences of my actions during the game because I saw that the rope at the back of me was hanging loosely which means that if we walk faster then we can reach the class earlier since there’s still some extra centimetre between each person but, after I got rope burns as a result of the people in front of me trying to do what I was thinking of doing. I, then finally realize that if I had walk fast and pulling the people at my back, forward, I could have hurt them and maybe even hurting myself.
